On Thursday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a crucial aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, offering hope to residents impacted by the recent calamity. This initiative enabled the Chief Minister to see firsthand the devastation and initiate immediate relief efforts.
During the survey, Abdullah interacted with residents, particularly in Duggain village, who suffered significant losses due to the impeding floods. Many families have lost their homes, and Abdullah’s engagement brought a sense of support to these distressed communities.
The Chief Minister also convened a meeting with district officers post-survey. He urged the administration to prioritize relief efforts and expedite necessary aid to those affected. Abdullah stated, “We must ensure that all support reaches our citizens who faced this calamity in their moment of need.”
An official statement from the Chief Minister’s office underscored the immediate actions recommended during the meeting. These measures include assessing damage reports, mobilizing resources for food and shelter, and addressing basic needs of the affected populace.
In addition to the aerial survey in Kathua, Abdullah plans to visit the Mahore area of Reasi district to evaluate the flood damage further. This extension of his relief assessment underlines the administration’s commitment to addressing the severe fallout from recent flash floods.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of a coordinated response from various government departments to ensure effective management of the crisis. Local administrative bodies have been tasked with rapid deployment of resources to restore normalcy as swiftly as possible.
Jammu and Kashmir has faced considerable challenges with recurrent flooding, prompting the state leadership and disaster management teams to enhance preparedness measures for the future. Abdullah emphasized on improving infrastructure and disaster response systems to mitigate loss during such occurrences.
As communities begin recovery, the administration’s immediate goal remains to provide shelter and essential services to those who have lost their homes. Abdullah reiterated, “Restoration should be our priority, and we will do everything possible to support our people through this difficult phase.”
