Doda Police Solves Motorcycle Theft Case in 48 Hours

Doda, November 08, 2025: In a rapid and commendable action, Doda Police cracked a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of its report. The police apprehended two suspects involved in the crime, ensuring the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

On November 5, 2025, Police Station Assar received a complaint from Omair Ullah Wani regarding his motorcycle, registration number JK06A-6107, missing from the Jathi area. This led to the registration of FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Assar.

Under the guidance of SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a special team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh and supervised by DySP DAR Doda and SHO Police Station Assar swung into action to investigate the case. Their swift efforts bore fruit when two suspects were detained during the early hours of November 6.

During interrogations, both suspects confessed to stealing the motorcycle during the night of October 26. The police promptly recovered the motorcycle from their possession. The accused were identified as:

  • Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, R/o Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — a Habitual Offender and Absconder
  • Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, R/o Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda

Authorities discovered that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer is a notorious habitual offender. His criminal record reveals multiple FIRs across several districts and states, including serious charges of theft, burglary, and drug-related crimes.

His criminal history includes a staggering number of FIRs registered against him such as: FIR No. 259/2013, FIR No. 59/2016, FIR No. 132/2016, among others, spanning charges from theft to drug offenses under the IPC and NDPS Act.

This long list of criminal offenses highlighted that he had managed to evade arrest for an extended period. Baffer was wanted in several districts including Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, and those in Himachal Pradesh.

The police noted the pressing need to eliminate threats posed by habitual offenders like Baffer, emphasizing their commitment to community safety. The strategy also aligns with their broader goal to enhance law and order across Doda.

SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta remarked, “Doda Police is committed to act firmly against repeat offenders and criminal elements involved in theft and other unlawful activities. Swift investigation and timely action remain our top priorities to ensure the safety and security of citizens.”
