RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Highlights ‘Vyakti Nirman’ at Centenary Event

Published:

Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), reaffirmed on Thursday the organization’s commitment to character building, or ‘vyakti nirman’, at the annual Vijayadashami function held in Nagpur. The event not only celebrated the traditional festival but also marked the centenary of the RSS, which has remained dedicated to its founding principles despite numerous temptations to engage in politics.

During his address to the swayamsevaks, Bhagwat shared insights from the RSS’s 100-year journey, asserting that the organization has resisted the allure of political involvement. He stated, “Over the last 100 years, the RSS has been offered temptations and even invited to enter politics. But the Sangh has focused only on running shakhas and character-building.”

Bhagwat underscored the necessity of gradual reforms within the global order to avert destruction. He articulated a vision for India to present a development model grounded in dharma, offering it as a solution to the world. “India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world,” he asserted, emphasizing the potential of India’s diverse cultural heritage.

Defining dharma as a connecting principle beyond mere rituals and worship, Bhagwat highlighted its role in fostering social transformation. He asserted that genuine change stems from embodying values of integrity, selflessness, and leadership, which the RSS aims to instill in its members through regular participation in shakhas.

Bhagwat called vyakti nirman a sustainable path towards societal change. He noted that the collective experiences of the swayamsevaks validate this approach, essential for nurturing a peaceful and harmonious society.

Recognizing India’s rich tapestry of languages, faiths, and traditions, he proclaimed that this pluralism is a strength that must be embraced. He emphasized, “All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” and urged for harmony, mutual respect, and a definitive stance against violence.

In a stern warning against hooliganism and communal discord, Bhagwat urged law enforcement agencies to act impartially and without bias. He challenged members of society, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant and organized in safeguarding peace. The emphasis on collective responsibility in upholding societal harmony resonated throughout his address.

The centenary Vijayadashami event served as a platform for Bhagwat to reinforce the RSS’s mission amidst a changing socio-political landscape. As the organization continues its commitment to vyakti nirman, it seeks to build a robust framework for social integrity, fostering respect for India’s inherent diversity while advocating for peace and coexistence.
